Cool Moves

Cool Moves is a national activity and healthy eating awareness program designed to create a life-long appreciation for a healthy, active lifestyle. Cool Moves has two distinct parts: Eat Smart, which encourages healthier eating choices, and Play Cool, which encourages more physical activity.

Ages 6-12

Conversation Circle

Funded by IRCC, conversation circles are designed to help newcomers develop their English language skills through informal conversations.  Join our facilitators and they guide you through stories, tongue twisters, practice dialogues, and more!  Must be a permanent resident to join. Available for both Arabic and Spanish speakers.

Dance Club

Develop body awareness, coordination, flexibility and strength. Participants will learn a variety of steps and techniques through games & play. Our dance programs focus on building confidence in movement through dance and play.

Ages 6-12

Discovery Lab

Discovery Lab engages kids in science concepts through an interactive 8-week curriculum that connects science to real world contexts. The program focuses on hands-on experiments, increases understanding of scientific approaches, and creates opportunities for problem solving, idea refinement, and iterative learning.

Ages 8-11

Girls Fit

Female participants will get involved with physical wellness in a safe, inclusive and fun environment. Girls fit is not limited to sport based programming, but will also include fitness, personal wellness, and nutritional education. Program is in partnership with Hamilton Fitness Community.

Gymnastics

Participants will learn a variety of techniques through games & play that focus on balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, and endurance.

Kid Food Nation

Kid Food Nation is a national initiative that helps kids and families develop food skills through hands-on experiences related to planning, preparing, and cooking. The program also features an online hub with resources for healthy eating and meal preparation, and a national recipe competition that encourages kids to put their food literacy skills into practice and submit original, healthy, and nutritious recipes.

LeadUP

The objective of the LeadUP project is to provide youth with opportunities to engage in service and volunteering initiatives that will address community needs and allow youth to develop life and employment skills as well as self-confidence and leadership abilities.

Grades 9-12

Let’s Get Moving

Let’s Get Moving is a registered after-school program offered throughout the school year. It focuses on physical activity, nutrition, personal health and well-being. Participants will be provided with a gift card to purchase nutritious snacks when registered. Tablets are available to sign out upon request.

Parent & Child Cooking for Newcomers

This program is designed for newcomer parents 18+ and their children to cook together and learn new recipes.  Through cooking, parents and children will have a time to bond over cooking while meeting other newcomer families in Hamilton.  Spaces limited.   Must be a permanent resident or government assisted refugee.

Newcomer Women’s Fitness

In partnership with the Hamilton Fitness Community, join Kat as she leads you through a series of fun workouts that focus on empowerment and self-esteem building!

Female Identifying 18+

Newcomer Women’s Space

This is a program designed for newcomers to Canada who are female identified and 18+.  Through the course of the program, topics on mental health & wellness, resources in Hamilton, employment, and family dynamics.  Spaces limited.  Must be a permanent resident or government assisted refugee.

Running Club

Participants will meet weekly to discuss and set running goals, learn about hydration, stretching and overall body health.

STEAM Ahead

We are going full steam ahead on fun! Mixing visual, auditory, and hands-on activities to engage different learning styles, STEAM Ahead encourages participants to explore STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts & math) fundamentals through hands-on, experiential learning.

Ages 10-12

Youth Leading Reconciliation

Youth Leading Reconciliation has been developed to engage Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth in cross-cultural dialogue, community-building, and collaboration. Through youth-led approaches, participants will build knowledge and awareness about Truth and Reconciliation, while also exploring the ways that they can act as advocates and allies.
